Safety Standards

All our lockout tagout supplies meet or exceed the stringent standards of numerous health and safety organizations, including, OSHA, ANSI, ASTM, NFPA, and others.

To ensure that proper LOTO procedures are in place to protect your employees, OSHA recommends the following:

  • Develop, implement, and enforce a lockout tagout program.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce a tagout-only program for any machine that cannot be fitted with a lockout padlock or similar device.
  • Use lockout tagout supplies for equipment that can be locked out. Tagout devices may be used in lieu of a lockout padlock or other equipment only if the tagout program provides employee protection equivalent to what is provided through a lockout program.
  • Use only lockout tagout supplies authorized for use on the specific machine/equipment at hand, and ensure that these LOTO devices are durable, standardized, and substantial.
  • Establish a policy that permits the removal of a lockout padlock or other device only by the employee who installed it.
  • Ensure that lockout tagout supplies identify the individual user.
  • Ensure that all new or refurbished equipment is LOTO-compatible.
  • Re-evaluate and adjust LOTO provisions as needed whenever machines or equipment are tested or repositioned.
  • Provide training for all employees covered by the LOTO standard.
  • Comply with all lockout tagout provisions when outside contractors work at your site, in group lockout situations, and during shift or personnel changes.
  • Inspect LOTO procedures frequently; annually, at a minimum
