IMT CHEMICAL FIELD TEST

THE EXPENSE AND RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH TODAYS SAFETY IDENTIFICATION SYSTEMS, DICTATE TESTING PROCEDURES THAT WILL ENSURE MAXIMUM RELIABILITY. NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING PROVIDES MANY OF THESE PROCEDURES. OF THE NUMBER OF NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING PROCEDURES AVAILABLE, "LIQUID PENETRANT INSPECTION" IS ONE THAT IS WIDELY USED.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS:

Because of the basic characteristics of Liquid Penetrant Inspection, it is used to test a variety of plastic materials and emulates field applications. Since Liquid Penetrant Inspection is capable of economically revealing surface discontinuities (variations in material composition) in a variety of environmental exposures: it is an extremely effective and useful tool for suitability analysis in regards to chemical and environmental exposures.

TEST PROCEDURES:

Approved procedures are formulated from analysis of the test specimen or article, review of its past history, experience on like or similar specimens, and information available concerning discontinuities in similar articles. It is the responsibility of personnel conducting the test to ensure that test procedures are adequately performed, and that the test objective is accomplished.

  • Tags/Labels shall not exhibit any loss of gloss, color, or legibility when exposed to five drops of the chemical agents/fluids listed below. Full exposure time of the labels to the fluids shall be 2 minutes. The exposed surface shall be rubbed in a back and forth motion with a cloth at the end of exposure time.

TEST OBJECTIVE:

The objective of Liquid Penetrant Inspection is to ensure product reliability by providing a means of:

  1. Obtaining a visual image related to a discontinuity in the specimen under test.
  2. Disclosing the nature of the discontinuity without impairing the material being tested.
  3. Separating acceptable and unacceptable material in accordance with predetermined standards.
